LOST REFERENTIALITY:
an archival investigation (2016)

found objects , electronic wastes, drawings, magnet, rust, layers of gum with dust, tools, skin of fruits and vegetables etc.
Every day we come across a ton of objects lying unattended or discarded on the road. For instance, if we find a screw on a pavement, this screw could be a component of one bicycle, a vehicle, or larger machinery. But the problem emerges when we try to comprehend its actual point of origin, something which is gravely blurred. In a world of identical, mass produced screw, one particular screw embodies unique experiences with its set of stories which is rather inaccessible. Hence, these discarded objects are, as I refer to as objects with „lost referentiality‟. More importantly, in lieu of looking for ways to find these "lost referentiality‟ we can use it as a key agent to establish other referentialities which is unknown to us, and which exists to us by the order of a disorder. Just like we do not know as how universe got created as the big bang seems to be a small explanation for us. How can we not say that it was god‟s fart? Jokes apart, we are always in search for our language through mark out the things which we are not being able to symbolize in any sense whether it be a screw with two missing marks, or it would be a marginalized prostitute of the society with whom the society does not have any relation without the mediation of body which gets reduced to an object.
Involving myself in everyday life, I observed that everyone is trying to edge out their own way of existence Vis-a-vis attempting to materialize possibilities in a desired manner while putting efforts to sustain the possibilities for strange tomorrows. In regular walks of life we keep, touch and recall the memories and make attachment with body, objects and journey of our body of desire along with the burdens. In this process, we engage with abstract material world in general (thoughts, ideas etc.) and physical (concrete) materials in particular. Within that process of learning I got interested in waste, damaged objects or any fragment of objects (abandoned spaces); those objects which have already lost their references or far detached from the source of its existence.
By merely seeing these objects we can etch out a resemblance with something that is already embedded in the visual framework of memory. Thus we can at once identify the object. At the contrary, we can't exactly connect with its specificities on a material plane.
